Windows 7: Help with Technet subscription

Windows 7 Ultimate x64

I'm actually on the phone with Microsoft right now trying to get some perspective on the use of TechNet software in the home. I've brought up the theory of having 2 or more machines at home and wanting to utilize the Technet pricing program to install and continue to use Win7.

The official answer was that as long as you are using this in a home environment and not running a business with a whole slew of desktops installed than it's probably just fine and dandy. They have been "vague" with the descriptions of what is considered evaluation and it seems it was done that way on purpose.

Overall I think MS just prefers to have the $350 of revenue in their pocket...versus a higher piracy count. He did indicate that you can get audited and it does happen from time to time, but as long as you are installed on machines that are yours and they are strictly for home use, you should have no problems as you aren't actually in violation of any part of the end-user license agreement.

He did have me on hold for 5-10 minutes as he was sorting this it's not really a question that they seem to handle 100 times a day.

So, moral of the story, direct from the TechNet program is that using Technet to install and run numerous installs on home computers for personal use is just fine. Just don't try to support or run a business without properly licensing first.
