How to get rid of Windows 7 tooltips and infotips?

Hi, I can't find any current guide (that works) in terms of how to get rid of the tooltips and infotips for Windows 7 (e.g. When you hover over Start, a small box appears that says "Start" or when you hover over the top right X, a small box appears that says "Close".).

I find the tips highly annoying and was wondering if there was a way to get rid of all Windows 7 tooltips and infotips on my computer. If so, how do you do it?

Hello Hulbert and welcome to Seven Forums. My usual disclaimer: I'm not an expert at anything. :)

Apparently there are several places where tooltips (and also infotips) might appear. They include thumbnails, start menu, control panel, taskbar, system tray, etc. And I don't believe there's just one registry switch that can turn the tooltips/infotips on (1) or off (0). Here are some Microsoft articles that might give you the info you need.

Here's some additional help for you:

To disable ALL the balloon tips in Windows 7, (this also includes the ‘Start’ balloon tip when you hover over the Start button)
Download Registry Tweak: Disable Balloon Tips in Windows 7

To disable only SPECIFIC balloon tips:
Disable “Do you want to run this file?” Message
    Turn off action center notifications
    Disable security center warnings
    Disable low disk space warnings

Also, don't forget to UNcheck 'Show pop-ups in the Folder Options'
