Windows 7: Windows 7 annoyances

Windows 7 annoyances

When i first started up Windows 7, i immediately fell in love with it. I thought, "this is the most beautiful operating system ever. It’s almost perfect".

I couldn’t believe there was already a shortcut for Windows Explorer on the task bar. It was like Microsoft finally acknowledged that people want access to files in folders other than “My Documents”. Amazing!

But then after using Windows Explorer for a while, i began to hate how the folder tree didn’t open to reflect the subfolder in the content view. Manually opening the branches became very tedious very quickly. It took me a week to realize there was an option to synchronize the two. Why isn’t this option on by default? What a terrible design decision.

And then after clicking YES for the hundredth time for administrator permission to move a file from one folder to another - UAC disabled, good riddance. When will UAC get a “do not always be so totally annoying” option?

One more thing. Why does the scroll position in my folder pane unpredictably jump to the top sometimes when i click open a folder? That’s not a feature. That’s a bug. Very Vista-esque, Microsoft.

lol

Windows Explorer's search feature is good for finding files, but don't try to use it for searching the contents of files.

The XP file search was ok, but the Windows 7 search is appalling. Really awful.

Shame Microsoft shame!

The auto-hide on the taskbar intermittently fails, forcing you to have to minimize all your applications before the taskbar will rise again.

XP and Vista had the same problem. I guess some bugs never need to be fixed because nobody ever notices them, or at least Microsoft tries to pretend that nobody notices, like an ostrich hiding its head in the sand.

lolay Microsoft

Actually, Windows Search is one of the things about both Vista and Windows 7 that makes it truly worth it. When entering specific criteria, the results returned include just about anything that matches.

Now, before you go and say that is just wrong, please have a look at this tutorial: Advanced Searches (Originaly written for Vista, but it still applies to Windows 7). Who knows, you might even change your mind and say something positive about Windows 7...

Windows 7 annoyances...

Hmmm...

OK, I'll bite: "People Who Can't Accept That Win 7 is Not 'XP 2010', therefore hate it for being 'Not The Same', and use that as an excuse to not learn".

installation error (not)

If you add a raid driver from a cd or dvd, don't forget to reload the windows 7 dvd else the installation procedure will display a message that implies an error with your hard drive and you won't be able to procede.

Right click on the start orb, select Properties, look at it's icon on the taskbar. It's from Vista. Probably other 'old' icons floating around.

Haha, I didn't notice that til you told me. I think somebody else mentioned a few before.. Like the Registry icon. It's the little things that bug me the most

I love Windows 7 regardless though.
