Laptop says I am in Aberdeen

    Hi all,

Not a serious issue this one, but when I run a speedtest it says I am located in Aberdeen, Scotland, when actually I am in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Why is this exactly? I am not using a proxy.

Would this effect my speed test? I'm back at home and now my line is super slow *cry*.

    Any help welcome.

    Merry Christmas!

Speed Test chooses the best server to perform the test, which may, or not be your actual location. You can choose a closer server, if there is one, and see if that helps your results ..

Yeah thanks I got that bit, but it shows a ping from me to the server, and I am placed in Aberdeen on their small little map jobby:)

    Here's a pic:

    Thanks

I've just checked you with a couple of the lookup tools we use on the site and one has you in Edinburgh and the other in Dundee lol

I think BT must be running NI's internet via Scottish infrastructure.

    Sigh.

That would explain why I get a 3.2 Mb line. So how does that work, everything has to go through Scotland before it comes across?

I honestly could not detest BT more, I had a big war with them over the summer because they claimed I could get a fibre line, took 5 visits within 12 weeks to tell me I couldn't and then cut off my account.

I was just very confused how you managed to place me there without any info. Until I saw my IP addy sitting at the bottom.

    Thanks
