C partition contents size does not agree - chkdisk does not fix
I have a huge discrepancy in the size of the contents of my C drive partition as measured in my computer vs drive properties.
In my computer, drive is listed as 55.1 GB free of 174 GB - this should mean contents occupies 118.9 GB. However, when I explore drive, select entire contents (hidden files & folders are set to display) > right click > properties > result says size 85.8 GB, size on disk 86.3 GB.
I would not be worried about a small discrepancy, but 33 GB? That doesn't seem right. Last night the discrepancy was over 50 GB. Last night I scheduled a chkdisk run for startup this AM, and I do not know the whether or not this remedied part of it, or if just restarting the computer did. But this is still huge.
I just exposed protected OS files as well, and this increased contents in drive properties to 106 GB, but even this is still a 13 GB discrepancy.
Is this normal? Is there anything to do about it? What is going on?
Thanks for any help.
