Computer not recognizing passwords

I have a new Dell Inspiron 15R computer with Windows 7. Yesterday it worked fine. This morning I was able to check my email. Later today I tried to open Skype (downloaded and used yesterday) and after I put in my password (little stars showed) it would take me to a page similar to "my computer". I then tried to go to my email to let my brother know that I couldn't skype and after I put in my password the stars would disappear, but it still sat at that screen. When I switched to my son's computer I could login to email with no problems so I don't believe the issue is with my email server. When I tried to register for this site it would not accept what I typed in the spot to see if I'm human.

Any ideas on what to do to fix this problem? I've had the computer for a week and only used it yesterday and today.

Thanks, Sz
