open windows not previewing on taskbar

If I have more than one page open in IE I can hover the mouse over the IE icon on the taskbar and see what pages are open.
This no longer works. I didn't install any programs and did not change any settings. The only change I recently did was change a setting in BIOS from 32bit to 64bit (I'm using W7 64bit).
Aero is working fine, I've been through alot of menus but can't find a setting for this.

    Hello Havoc,

Double check to make sure that you have a Aero Theme selected in Personalization. Next, check each item in blue NOTE box at the top of the tutorial below, and that you didn't use any of the options in the tutorial to disable the taskbar thumbnail previews.

Taskbar Thumbnail Previews - Enable or Disable

    Hope this helps for now,

I have aero theme selected, for some reason I had to rerun WEI because it was showing "No hardware" I ran it and previews were working. Now when I enable 2D surround it stops working. It always worked before with 2D surround.
I checked eveything in the tutorial and the only thing I saw was in "let Windows choose whats best" in performance options, "save taskbar thumbnail previews" is unchecked. When I check the box, the top part changes to Custom.
    Previews still don't work.

Have you recently updated your NVIDIA drivers right before it stopped working?

You might see if doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this stopped working may be able to undo what caused it to fix it.

Nope, I've been using the same drivers since I reinstalled Windows 7 about a month ago. I can try newer drivers if you think that will help.
I did recently install an older game that used to work in Windows 98 and XP. I was trying to change the resolution in the games .ini file. It worked and the game looked better with the new resolution (1024x768) but it only worked on the center display. I uninstalled the game but it made no change.
Can I put the Windows CD in and do a repair install?

I wouldn't go as far as doing a repair install yet.

You could try installing the latest NVIDIA driver to see if that may help. If not, then try doing a system restore using a restore point dated before this stopped working may be able to undo what caused it to fix it.

I tried a newer driver and it did nothing. I'm going to do a system restore to before I installed the game.

Did a system restore and it didn't work.
I'm getting an error message. The Desktop Window Manager is experiencing heavy resource contention. It's listed in event viewer. I'll look online to try and find a fix.
Here is the link that was in the event viewer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...55(WS.10).aspx

What I gather is that my video cards (GTX580's in dual SLI) are working too hard. There must be a conflict with another program or something. My cards aren't hot at all. It's only when I set up 2D surround that I'm seeing an issue. I got the last error when I had multiple windows open and surround was working. I now have surround off, multiple windows open and I get the previews on the taskbar and no errors.
I just installed (last night) the newest video card drivers (Beta) and I'll see how it is.

Hopefully the new drivers will allow your taskbar thumbnail previews to work with 2D surround turned on.

You might also report this to NVIDIA to help make sure that they are aware of this, and hopefully fix the issue in a new driver version when released next.
