Windows 7: power options not available

power options not available

Everything is grayed out under choose what closing the lid does. There is an option to change settings currently unavailable but when I click that it says access is denied. How do I change these settings. This is under the balanced plan and I am in the administrators account.

Also under choose plan settings there is no option for never and I can't get this to appear.

Hi, Shadethire.
Has this always been the case or is it something new?
Is the operating system (Windows) preinstalled on the machine; or is this a home install?

Windows came preinstalled on the machine and there is a preset Samsung optimized power plan which is already setup.

If Samsung has control over power management, then Windows will offer little or no options (greyed-out).
As I have never dealt with configuring Samsung's power manament service, my only guess is that this would have to be disabled or outright uninstalled before Windows can offer applicable options.
Think about creating a System Image before fiddlin' around too much; the image will be a paved path back to sanity if the machine has issues in the future. Beats the he** out of returning the machine to factory setting everytime something goes wrong.

ok problem solved. There was a samsung program called fast start which apparently starts your computer up even faster(from sleep) than windows normally does. I opened this up and then proceeded to turn off(disable) and that solved all the problems with anything grayed out.

Glad to hear that you have retained control of power management.
I have found that these programs installed to manage power on an OEM machine use more resources than they "save". IMHO, I would get rid of it entirely and just use Windows power management services.
