Hello Andy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I would recommend to create a new administrator account for yourself, copy anything that you would like (ex: files, shortcuts, etc...) from the old account into the new one, then delete the old account while logged in the new one. This way you'll be starting with a fresh user account.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Try this out.

Open the Registry Editor by typing "Regedit" without the inverted commas in Run or Command Prompt and clicking "Enter".

Click on Edit Menu and in the drop down list Click on Find.

Type your friends name and press enter. When your friend's name comes up replace it with your name. Then press either F3 or click on find Next and do the same.

Continue this till you get the "Finished searching the Registry".

    That is it.

However please note that editing of the Registry if done wrongly can cause severe problems, therefore first back up the Registry before editing it. I would even suggest that if you have never edited the Registry before then have a knowledgeable friend by your side to oversee what you are doing.

As Shawn has suggested, the best method would be to create a new user id with admin privilages and login using that user name. This will create a new clean profile and you will have a clean start.

If you rename your friend's profile as suggested by Wanchoo, you will basically get your friend's profile on your name. If your friend's profile has any problems (let us say!), these problems will be passed on to you.

That is the difference between both methods. You choose whatever method you like!
