Windows 7: My screen stays dark after closing and opening lid of computer. Help?

If I let the computer sit unused, the screen goes black, as most monitors would; however, the screen stays dark when I move the mouse or hit buttons or something. Similarly, if I close the lid of my laptop when its turned on, and then open the lid, the screen stays black. Not only that, but when I closed the lid of the laptop, the computer never turned off. It was still running.

I reset the power options to default as well, so there is nothing wrong there.

Perhaps I should also mention that the screen successfully turns off and on in safe mode?



edit: Just tried a system restore to two weeks ago and the system crashed. Both times.

Can you be a bit more clear?What is your graphics driver and computer model?
Or do you really need your screen to go black after sometime?If that's necessary turn all the power options to none
and try cleaning the pc with an antivirus

I did a virus scan, it came up clean. And even if I turned the screen turning off part off, I will still be unable to close the lid of my computer.

Not quite sure what the issue is. On my laptop, if i leave it sit long enough (lid closed) then it will not awake by using the mouse or buttons. Pushing the power button wakes it back up.

Works the same way on the ones at work.
