Windows 7: explorer.exe crash when inserting disc

explorer.exe crash when inserting disc

I'm running build 7100.
It happens pretty regularly and only when I insert a data CD/DVD. As the system recognizes the disc, I get a message saying - Windows Explorer Has Stopped Working.
I greatly appreciate any help I can get with this.

Please fill out system specs in User CP. "...only when I insert a data CD/DVD..." Do you mean any type of CD, or have you tried MP3 discs, et cetera?

Hello Ejgjunk,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

You could try running system file check. Info here if needed: SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

You could take a look in the Event Viewer and see if there's anything in there to give a hint. Also Reliability Monitor. You can access them by typing the name in the start menu search box.

Hope this helps.

any disc

Antman, thanks for responding. It happens when any disc, not just data, is inserted into the DVD drive. It happens as the system begins to recognize the disc. I'll fill out the specs for my computer.

You'll see two options in that window click the second option that says "Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select."

8. when you are finished with that then click the 'add...' button it should be visable at the bottom of the box. then you have to find where the file 'explorer.exe' resides on your computer most of the time it's something like this c:\windows\explorer.exe anyway add explorer to that list.

It'll give you a warning just ignore it and click ok. Then you reboot and if you try it everything should work just fine.

Try this. If it fails, please reset to original.
