Windows 7: Slow search Engine

Slow search Engine

I just upgraded a Dell XPS 410 with a new HD, graphics card, and Windows 7 Home Premium. I also boosted the RAM from 1gb to 4gb. I changed the default Bing search engine to Google. In my homepage in IE, I can access favorites with no problem. If I try to use the google search engine to get to a web site, it just keeps searching for several minutes with no result. Did MS deliberately honk up the google search engine to force you to use bing in Windows 7? Oh, I'm using a DSL line for internet access and never had this problem with XP or VISTA. Since I just installed the OS 2 days ago, there have been 50 upgrades downloaded. Could this be the problem?

no, lol. Microsoft would be sued for that!

Updates are important to have. You can set windows to automatically download drivers, and make sure all of windows update is actually up to date. Here is how: Device Installation Settings

Did this only happen after the upgrades or before? I hear your power supply isn't quite up to par with all those upgrades. This can effect system performance.

Do you have the latest network drivers installed?

I ensured all the drivers were updated and even got my old printer to work. When I first booted after installation and hooking up the router, I had no problem as long as Bing was the default search engine. When I went to Google the problem started. Then the 50 updates. Everything else seems to be operating normally. I'm going to restore Windows to before the updates to see if that solves the problem.

IE problem

Update. Spent 2 hrs on phone with Microsoft tech geek. They tried everything short of replacing the CPU.

Did you disable all search engines then just add a Google shortcut to the Favorites bar? I used Tuneup Utilities to remove the search window from IE8 and just use the Favorites link.

What add-ons (and as britton said) and search providers do you have installed? DO you have the latest version of IE (9)?

No add-ons. Doesn't search in Bing or Google. Still no respnse from Microsoft due to holiday. Only way to get to a website is to type the URL (If you know it!) Can't even get to a site if a URL is referred to in an email.

Bill, can you post a picture of your add-ons and search providers?

Also, Here is Google's search provider if you haven't downloaded it yet (assuming it is the one you wanted): Internet Explorer Gallery

Fixed. Required a re-install of Windows 7 software. Something happened to host file(s) during initial install. Seems to be working OK now.

Search Engine ?
Hello, Is there a free, or inexpensive, search engine that will search the text in the documents in all my files, and not just by file name ? In other words, literally searching every text word on PC, wherever it might be, looking for a match. Thanks, Bob

Firefox Search Engine
I have used Google Toolbar on Firefox for a couple of years. I got a Firefox Update today and Google is no longer compatible with Firefox. I have tried a few other search engines like Bing and they are also not compatible. What Search Engine Toolbar do you have on Firefox? Thanks,

Windows 7 search engine
First post here. I am really surprised not to see more discussion of this, and I have not found any sort of acceptable alternative since starting with Windows 7 in March of 2011 I simply do not understand the Windows 7 search engine capabilities. Perhaps the best way to highlight this is with...
