NTUSER.DAT is the Registry for a specific user. It is suppose to exists!

Agreed, but there shouldn't be 28 of them. Can we see a full listing of all the files?

Everytime you creat a new user or change the user name a new account is made and the old account remains. You can delete the accounts that you no longer use but make sure you only delete the one not in use or needed.

Thank you for you swift and informative replies

1 I can let you see a list, but unsure how. Hope there is a ,jpg here somewhere.

2 I never change user, nobody else uses this laptop. It has crashed (over heated a few times and just turned off) but I am the soul user.

3 Some of the NTUSER files are 2010, some are small some marked .DAT .RegTRANS .BLF .LOG

Thank you to you all for your help and kindness, Greetings of the coming year.

Select all the files that have the long '{xxxxxx" added to the ends. Delete but do not force delete. When you are presented with a dialog about some of the files that are in use, click on "skip"

    +1.

I had a similar thing on my laptop before and found that I could simply sort the files by date, then delete all except the most recent set (one of each .dat, .blf, .regtrans, etc. file).
