Are Windows update and iegallery.com down?

    Hi,

I'm installing a new Windows 7, and after that, I've been trying to use Windows Update to get SP1, plus change the IE9 search provider.

The updates are kind of working, but very, very slow (like hours to download), and when I try to change the search provider, IE9 goes to iegallery.com and either hangs with a partial page, or says "this service is not available". This has been going on for the better part of today (12/31/2011).

So, are those Micrsoft sites down today?

    Thanks,
    Jim

Hi ohaya, welcome to 7F, and happy new year! :)

Type/copy/paste the web sites you are trying to reach in any of these:

    www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/

    www.checksite.us/

    www.isup.me/

I just tried checking for any updates for my machine, came back with a no, your good message in under 8sec .

What kind of installation are you preforming?

    Hi,

I installed Win7 Ultimate 64-bit from scratch, earlier today. Then, I started running Windows Update. Kind of parallel to that, I was trying to change the search provider in IE to Google. I've been trying to get the above done for about 1/2 of today so far.

I've finally been able to get the SP1 installed/updated (just a bit ago), and am now installing the subsequent 5-7 important updates.

The IE search provider thing (iegallery.com) still seems to be down though. You can see here that it looks like I'm not the only one seeing this problem:

P.S. Happy New Year to you all also :), though I'm on the east coast U.S., so we're still not quite there yet :). Should have known better than to try to install/update Windows on new years eve (wifey isn't happy about that :)).

    Hi,

BTW, I checked the 1st site you suggested, and got:

    Code:
It's not just you! http://iegallery.com looks down from here.

Are you having any problems with other sites or just WU?

I have seen quite a few sites that are down or doing maintenance during the holidays.
I guess the owners figure that since their employees are off, they'll do system/server maintenance.

With your handle "ohaya" I'm thinking your in the State just West of me me (Ohio).
I'm near Harrisburg, Pa. I have 11:51 on the PC clock so I'm going to take a break, and watch the festivities.

    See you next year!

    Hi,

No, no problems with other sites. Also tried from a different PC and same problem (with iegallery.com). I'm assuming that they're doing some kind of maintenance as you suggested.

Happy new year again :) (now past midnight).
