File does not have program associated with it?

    Hi

I wonder if someone can help me with a recent problem. Whenever I try to open one of my libraries (documents, pictures, videos, or pictures), I receive the following message:"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program, or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel."

However, if I click on the menu on the left side of the Libraries panel, then the library folder opens up normally. This seemed to happen after I downloaded and installed SP1 for Windows 7 the other day.

Is there an easy way to fix this? The rest of the system seems to be running OK.

My system is running Windows 7 Premium Home Edition. The PC has 6GBs of ram and 1TB HDD

    Thanks

    Peter

Have you tried right-clicking Libraries in the left-hand window page and choosing restore default libraries?

    Or maybe this.

Thanks Bright Blessings. Yes I did try that - but when I do so I get the same message.

But the funny thing is that if I right click on any of the folders and click "open", all the files shown up. The "file does not have a program" message only appears when I double click the folder icon to open it. Not sure what is going on.

It seems that your Windows is corrupted. Please do a System File Check.

    Thanks Francis93

I just tried that. The scan didn't show up anything and I got a message to say "Windows Resource protection did not find any integrity violation". But the problem is still there.

    Thanks Britton 30

The problems are with the library icons on the right hand side. But still not working. Probably need to try a restore?

Yes a system Restore may help you. If not and it is really a problem, Repair Install is the next step.

I don't really know if it is a problem - but it is annoying. However, if I right click on the items in the right hand pane and click "Open" then all the files open up. But not if I click "Explore" or double click the items. In those cases I get the "no program associated with the file" message.

:)I meant if you can live with it, no need to worry about it. I don't think it's a major problem, just annoying.
