Are disable startup programs disabled for every users

Hi,

I would like to know if when I disable a Startup program (in msconfig) if it is disabled for all other user accounts.

We will soon be using Win Server 2008 at our office, we currently have Win 7 Pro installed on all of our stations.

Some of our computers will have multiple user loggin in from their network account and I would like to know if those pesky startup program will start or not if I disabled them once in msconfig

Thank you

it depends where the item is starting from.

AFAIK msconfig will load the startup info from the current users registry hive. so yes msconfig will make changes to all startup items for all users, except items started from: HKEY_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run from which it will only read the current user.

hi there

there is a fantastic program you can use to check all users when you run it in ADMINISTRATOR its called autoruns one of Microsoft sysinternals tools download here >>>>> Autoruns for Windows
you can choose to look at any user and there autoruns

Quote:
Introduction

This utility, which has the most comprehensive knowledge of auto-starting locations of any startup monitor, shows you what programs are configured to run during system bootup or login, and shows you the entries in the order Windows processes them. These programs include ones in your startup folder, Run, RunOnce, and other Registry keys. You can configure Autoruns to show other locations, including Explorer shell extensions, toolbars, browser helper objects, Winlogon notifications, auto-start services, and much more. Autoruns goes way beyond the MSConfig utility bundled with Windows Me and XP.

Autoruns' Hide Signed Microsoft Entries option helps you to zoom in on third-party auto-starting images that have been added to your system and it has support for looking at the auto-starting images configured for other accounts configured on a system. Also included in the download package is a command-line equivalent that can output in CSV format, Autorunsc.

You'll probably be surprised at how many executables are launched automatically!
