Icons rearrange on KVM switch

Whenever I use my KVM switch to switch between two computers, when I return windows 7 automatically rearranges all of the desktop icons in no recognizable pattern. This happens even when the second computer has the same screen resolution or is turned off entirely. Any suggestions?

I have this issue also and think that it has something to do with the Win7 system re-recognizing the monitor each time that you use the KVM.

On my system I've had some success with arranging the icons and then refreshing the screen (before using the KVM) - but mostly I just put up with it

Another suggestion would be to try installing monitor drivers on each of the 2 computers to see if that helps.

It is extremely annoying. If you go back and forth several times eachtimes icons are rearranged differently. It must be a Win7 problem because before I was using XP Pro on the first computer and it worked fine.

It'd have to be the drivers then. I'd presume that each time the system tries to identify and install a Plug and Play monitor. To get around this I'd install drivers on each system for the display that you have.

XP MCE .... XP Pro 64 .... W7 U x64

It is a problem (annoyance) in W7
When I switch monitors .. I'm OK.
If I boot while the Monitor is connected (KVMed) to another Computer...
I'm in serious trouble.

I've read that W7 will not work at all ... with some KVMs.
It never sees a monitor connected ... But why does it need to ????

I have tried it yet ... but this should really mess up using a projector ???

Minor annoyance, can't find a solution. Is it possible to change the order of the hard drive icons? I want to keep my backup drive as B: and call it "Backup", but I want the C: drive listed first. http://666kb.com/i/bbisczkcdy065c87m.jpg
