System Reboots When Plugging In A USB Cable

The title is somewhat misleading. This event happens maybe once every 20 plug-in attemps and only when I'm slightly up or down from a straight push in.
    The device doesn't matter.
The port in question is one of four on the front panel of the case. The rebooting only happens with one port. Never had a problem with the other three.
I haven't pulled the front of the case because it happens so infrequently.
However, I would like some suggestions on the possible cause.

As the doctor says, if it hurts don't do it. It sounds like a bad port. Stop using it.
Antec sells the replaceable front port assemblies. Check their website and see if they have one to fit your model of case. They range in price from about $6-$12. It's not likely you'll be able to repair the port.

I had this problem with one of my Antec cases during winter months but not in the summer. I concluded it was probably due to static electricity discharging through the USB port and confusing the motherboard.

Try grounding yourself to your computer case (touch any exposed metal on the case) before plugging in the cable.

Another workaround is to buy a powered USB hub, plug that into your computer, and then plug anything you will be disconnecting regularly into the hub. Powered hubs are grounded and will shunt static charges to ground before they can reach your computer.

Reboot when plugging in to front USB port.

I have this problem with an Antec Three Hundred case, even after receiving a replacement for the front USB/audio port module. Are you using an Antec 300?

To be honest, I don't know the Antec P/N. I bought it years ago, there's no model # on the case, and finding the bill would take a few hours.
