Cant login to new user profile on D:\
Have just done clean install
Move User folder by editing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList ProfilesDirectory = D:\ (as it was before)
Created new User profile
Wont let me log in to the new user (just boots me back out)
Had a look at folder permissions which seem fine
What did I forget to do when moving User folder?

Hello Chris,
Did you use
D:\Users
for the data of ProfilesDirectory like in OPTION TWO of the tutorial below? It can't be just a drive letter.
User Profile - Change Default Location
Hope this helps,
Shawn

It was as per Option 2 registry modification
I did use just D:\ (drive letter worked fine before and is currently working fine on my other machine with several users)
but just incase i also tried D:\Users (and added User folder to the drive)
Still just boots me out
I cant imagine what else I forgot
The error says "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. the user profile cannot be loaded"

It sounds like the profile may be corrupted. You might see if this may help with that error.
User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

Nope - not corrupt profile
deleted it and created two new ones - neither will logon
it just doesn't like new home for user profiles
looks like i'll just have to put the registry back to C:/Users

Strange, is the D: drive internal, external, or networked?

Crisis averted
I just re-installed Windows
reset HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList ProfilesDirectory = D:\
and it's fine now - created 2 new profiles on D: no problem
Thanks
