Windows 7: Windows 7 Freezes on Desktop

Windows 7 Freezes on Desktop

This problem started months ago and has been recurring on my Asus K42Jc laptop ever since then. It started like this: One day my laptop had died on me due to loss of battery power, so i plugged in the charger and turned it on again to be greeted by the system resume screen. I chose to delete the restoration data and proceed to the boot menu, but when i logged on it froze at the Welcome loading screen so i did a force shutdown and tried to reboot. Still the same problem. I had recently installed an nvidia beta driver and a windows update so i tried to do a system restore to before i installed the said drivers but to no avail. It still froze at the welcome screen. However, the problem did not manifest itself during safemode so i assumed it must have been one of my drivers. I sent it to a computer repair shop as i didn't want to test every single driver myself. They said the problem was due to my memory, specifically my RAM, and so they switched out my 4GB of RAM for a nice 6GB. It worked for maybe a week until the problem started again. So I did a clean install of windows 7 and formatted my hard drive. It worked for a couple of days until which the problem started AGAIN. And so i did ANOTHER clean install but here we are AGAIN. My current installation has NO PROGRAMS installed other than mozilla firefox and the only drivers i installed are an official Nvidia driver (not a beta) and an Intel (R) HD Graphics driver. I am not sure if it is my hardware or if it is the drivers. My computer did not freeze immediately after i installed the drivers but a couple of days after i installed them. And plus my RAM is brand new. So could it be the drivers or would it be another underlying hardware problem? I'm sorry for the long post but i really need my laptop and i would not spend for a new one if my current one could be fixed.

And by the way the current problem is that my laptop freezes not on the welcome screen but right after the welcome screen maybe after 1 second on the desktop.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Try booting into Safe Mode by pressing the F8 key when the Asus logo appears.

If your computer completes the boot procedure then it's safe to assume you have a driver problem.

Oh so thats the problem.

Alright my safemode works... so that means its a driver problem.... i know testing each driver takes VERY long, so can you recommend or do you know of any software that can test and repair my drivers for me?

Have a look at this Microsoft article, which offers advice on pinpointing a suspect driver.

However, as your RAM was upgraded in an effort to solve the problem, you may need to consider whether you have a motherboard problem, in particular the DIMM sockets.

Thank you for the advice seavixen32. Thanks to you my laptop (and my sanity) has been saved. It was a driver problem due to a faulty network adapter driver. Anyway, thank you sincerely for all the help and time you have spent helping me fix my problem.
