This problem started months ago and has been recurring on my Asus K42Jc laptop ever since then. It started like this: One day my laptop had died on me due to loss of battery power, so i plugged in the charger and turned it on again to be greeted by the system resume screen. I chose to delete the restoration data and proceed to the boot menu, but when i logged on it froze at the Welcome loading screen so i did a force shutdown and tried to reboot. Still the same problem. I had recently installed an nvidia beta driver
and a windows update so i tried to do a system restore to before i installed the said drivers
but to no avail. It still froze at the welcome screen. However, the problem did not manifest itself during safemode so i assumed it must have been one of my drivers. I sent it to a computer repair shop as i didn't want to test every single driver myself. They said the problem was due to my memory, specifically my RAM, and so they switched out my 4GB of RAM for a nice 6GB. It worked for maybe a week until the problem started again. So I did a clean install of windows 7 and formatted my hard drive. It worked for a couple of days until which the problem started AGAIN. And so i did ANOTHER clean install but here we are AGAIN. My current installation has NO PROGRAMS installed other than mozilla firefox and the only drivers i installed are an official Nvidia driver (not a beta) and an Intel (R) HD Graphics driver. I am not sure if it is my hardware or if it is the drivers. My computer did not freeze immediately after i installed the drivers but a couple of days after i installed them. And plus my RAM is brand new. So could it be the drivers or would it be another underlying hardware problem? I'm sorry for the long post but i really need my laptop and i would not spend for a new one if my current one could be fixed.
