Task Manager showing old computer/user name (and i don't like it!)

Hi there, I am hoping someone can advise me on how to remove the old computer name from task manager. I have changed the name of the user account in user settings, but annoyingly the old name shows up in task manager.

    Any advice, appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Ben.

    do you mean device manager?

to change your computer name: press start button >> right-click 'computer' >> properties >> advanced system settings >> computer name

...or a quicker way - type name into start-menu searchbox then select 'rename this computer'

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply, I have been into the computers properties and changed them to the name I want to use... But... still showing up with the old computer name in WTM! It's a little bit of an enigma to me I'm afraid...

    Cheers,

    Ben.

Even after deleting in User Accounts, the original Admin account's name will remain in Explorer until reinstall. This is a security measure by Win7. You can ignore the listing, transfer the files to the new account.

Remember also you must have one Admin-level account before you can delete the original owner's Account.

I think this can be done by opening the Registry and editing it by replacing the old name by your name where ever the old name occurs.

I haven't done it so far in Windows 7 but I have used this method to do it several times in Windows XP.

There is some security reason why the original owners name stays intact until reinstall.

If you don't wish that to be the case then consider a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is always a good thing and better than getting a new computer since you'll lose all the corrupting factory bloatware.
