Windows Explorer Icon - need someone to check on pls

    Hi guys,

For reasons I will explain if I do have a problem:

Can someone tell me which "Open" Icon is displayed in their Windows Explorer menu bar (to the right of "Organize") when the following two items are selected (single clicked) within Windows Explorer:

    >C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
(Mine shows a generic type icon, white with a blue band at the top and some verticle bars in the body)

    >C:\Users\Your User Name\Favorites\select any bookmark (url)
(Mine shows a house with a blue roof, the dropdown arrow show Internet "Browser" vs Explorer)

    Thanks for your help

Thanks guys for the response to the 1st location, can I have your feedback on the 2nd location's icon also? (the house with the blue roof one).

Brink, as respects the .exe fix - this a is rather elaborate solution. So is this "programing" Windows Explorer to do what Microsoft forgot to do, or is this fixing something that has gone wrong or been corrupted with my/our Windows 7 systems?

I note by your response to others in your original post that this process will basically show the same icon for all .exe files - correct?

Regarding my "house with the blue roof" icon, is this an error? If so, do you have a fix for it?

Thanks - this site is on the ball !

    Lexus,

The tutorial above will fix the Open icon to show the application icon instead of the default icon for when you have a application (ex: .exe) type file selected.

You will still see the "house with the blue roof" icon when a URL file is selected though. This is the way it should be, and not a bug.

The bug comes into play when the first icon in the library of the file referenced to be used for the icon is not always the correct icon, as in the case with .exe files. This is just a minor graphical bug, and will never cause any issue from it. The tutorial above is a workaround to use the icon provided in the tutorial instead to have the correct icon show for application type files.
