Windows 7 Home Premium "Search" is not working

Windows 7 Home Premium - Windows search is not working. I have tried several proposed remedies, including the standard ones from Microsoft, with no luck. I'm perfectly happy to let the computer run for hours if that is what is necessary but the standard suggestion that warned about rebuilding the Index took about 2 seconds and was, of course, a complete failure. Any help would be appreciated. It's a great tool when it works.

I assume you ran this tool: Fix Windows Search ... that said I prefer using FileSearchEX these days.

go to Command Prompt and run <sfc /scannow> This will find internal errors in the system.

Go to start and type in (search) and you should see Find and Fix problems with Windows Search. This may help you.

Do yourself an enormous favour and install the (free) Everything Search Engine instead... :)

Let me rephrase the problem. Until a month ago if I entered "topology" (no quotes) the file named Point Set Topology came up. (That's math not network topology.) Now it doesn't. Now generalize that result. What do I do to make it work again?

    From Gerry

    Brink,

If I type ger (which appears over 10,000 times in another file searcher) I get 79 hits.

If I type topo which should bring up hundreds of hits I get none.

    Does that help?
