    RC to Final?

I was wondering if I can install win7 rc right now, and then just purchase the home premium upgrade and plug in that key, without re-installing? Is this going to be possible? thanks!

according to this post (<- click that) it is possible. i, and mostly everyone else here would recommend a clean install though. please read the post, there are some restrictions, and so on. hope it clears things up for you.

I think the OP was asking if he could use an RTM key on the RC and keep it activated...if so than no....You will have to install the RTM to use the purchased key

That is very true but at least it is possible for the OP to upgrade from the RC to the RTM version, if he wants to do the simple workaround instructions provided by MS here.

    No, it's not possible.

The activation schemes are different between the RC and the final version.

In addition, there are more software differences than just the key -- you'll want to install / upgrade to the final version.

    Not likely,

The RC is the 'Ultimate' edition.

    'Home Premium' won't cut it.
