    Creating a static IP address

I'm looking to create a static IP address and the previous threads on this are all a bit conflicting in their methodology and quite old! Two or three years at least. Is there any more up to date thinking on this?

are you talking about for your own internal network?

network and sharing centre >> your connection >> properties >> select 'internet protocol 4' >> properties >> use the following ip address

    here's mine for example:

make sure your default gateway is the address of your modem/router and you may want to 'obtain DNS server automatically' rather than the custom ones that i use.

i don't know what a subnet mask is, but that address works for me.

If you require an ISP based static IP address you will need to order this with your ISP, and some charge extra for it...

Yeah, I agree. That's the key question. Do you need an internal static IP, for something such as a printer on your internal network, or is this a static IP so your computer can be accessible from outside of your network?
