| Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit 7601 Multiprocessor Free Service Pack 1 Cornwall UK | Creating a static IP address I'm looking to create a static IP address and the previous threads on this are all a bit conflicting in their methodology and quite old! Two or three years at least. Is there any more up to date thinking on this? |

| | are you talking about for your own internal network? network and sharing centre >> your connection >> properties >> select 'internet protocol 4' >> properties >> use the following ip address here's mine for example:  make sure your default gateway is the address of your modem/router and you may want to 'obtain DNS server automatically' rather than the custom ones that i use. i don't know what a subnet mask is, but that address works for me. |

| | If you require an ISP based static IP address you will need to order this with your ISP, and some charge extra for it... |

| | Yeah, I agree. That's the key question. Do you need an internal static IP, for something such as a printer on your internal network, or is this a static IP so your computer can be accessible from outside of your network? |
