Vista 64 bit or Windows 7 32 bit on new build

Hello, I am building a computer for a friend and am seeking some opinions on whether to use Vista 64 bit or Windows 7 32 bit. The PC will mainly be used for things like Quickbooks and general PC programs, nothing too taxing. I had planned on 4GB of RAM for the PC so it would be slightly limiting using Vista. Which OS would give me the best performance in this situation?

Thanks

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Having used Vista 64-bit myself, I have no hesitation in recommending Windows 7 32-bit.

It really is the operating system that Vista should have been.

Is there any reason why you're not considering the 64-bit version of Windows 7?

Thanks for the quick reply. I would love to use Windows 7 64 bit but I currently have copies of these two operating systems and would rather put the saved cash into better hardware.

In that case, go for Windows 7 32-bit.

I realise that there is a maximum memory constraint of 3.25GB, but Windows 7 is so much better than Vista I think it's worth putting up with it.

You can use either 32- or 64-bit with each license, as long as you only use one at a time.

Let us know if you need the latest installer for either bit version.

Oh wow, I did not know that the keys would work like that. I still have the Windows 7 64bit SP1 disc so I think I am good to go. Hey thanks again guys, really appreciate this.

Have done an upgrade from Vista Ultimate x86 to Win 7 7077 x86. Absolutely no problems, went as smooth as can be. Increased speed, even though there is only 2GB RAM and 160GB hdd. Vista felt sluggish and slow. It has now grown wings. :D
