I wonder if someone had tried to activate the Windows OS with illegal methods (BIOS MOD or any method else) ever, might it cause the Windows OS being not activated even with the the genuine key?
Yes, it could and should screw you up. People unfortunately don't take piracy seriously enough. If you love Windows so much and so desperately want to use it...then just pay for it already and get on with life. If you don't...there are plenty of free alternatives out there for your use.

I'm not calling out anybody here...as I don't know their situation....but you see this kind of crap all of the time...and it's the generalities that I am speaking about.

I did activate the RC with not so legal methods but my RTM copy is genuine. It activated fine when I upgraded and has been running for a while now but suddenly today it decides to tell me it is not genuine
I might have to do a re-install but did not want to unless absolutely necessary.

I know I should not have tried to activate the RC version and merely re-armed it, however I always did intend getting a genuine copy through my technet subscription.

But the release candidate version could be activated with the free release candidate keys they were giving out. I activated my RC copy without any issues whatsoever. There was no need to do the re-arm with the release candidate.
