    Info on my laptop

Hi guys. I'm pretty new to the laptop world.

I have just brought an HP dv7t windows 7 ultimate 64 bit 750g 8g RAM ??? Is this a good laptop? Are there any hints or tips I should know ? to get the best performance and easy use and good gadgets?

Any info would be really appreciated

Also, whats the difference between Wifi and LAN. I'm connected to my home Internet but it keeps telling me LAN not connected?

    Thank you

Wifi means wireless Lan means connected via an ethernet cable.

Thank you. I will be using it for a little photoshopping n movie editing. But mainly just regular Internet use, music and watching movies.

    Thank you

    Avoid most gadgets.

Do the same stuff you would do on a desktop--proper maintenance and monitoring.

Turn off hibernation if you don't use it. Inspect size of the page file. Inspect amount of space used by System Restore.

Keep on top of processes, RAM, and CPU usage via Task Manager and Resource Monitor.

Let Windows defrag on its default schedule of weekly.

Peek at msconfig periodically to see what is loading at startup.

Try to restrain your impulse to install every last doo-dad and download.

Get a good anti-virus/anti-malware setup going.

    Devise a solid backup strategy.

Do periodic "disk cleanups". The built-in app works well for the purpose.

    Avoid registry cleaning.

Probably install something like HWInfo32 to monitor temps, fan speeds, and voltages.
