Windows 7: hight pitch whine/static at bootup then constant

When i turn on my speakers or attach headphone's there is an high pitched whine that comes through about 3/4 of the way through the windows 7 bootup, just before it loads up to choose your profile and remains constant.

If you mute the sounds its still present.
Ive tried 1 set of speakers and 2 different sets of headphone's and its prevalent.

I tried muting the mic in the sound, no luck.



Im going to trying the Perform a Clean boot and see if its still there and will report back later but in the off chance this is a common problem ive not found does anyone know what might cause this?

Its a brand new pc with Windows 7 installed.

Edit my power supply was the 600W model.

If immediately (within two or three minutes) after booting you shut down the computer and then start all over again is the whine still there or does it disappear? What is your Computer's brand? Is it custom assembled?

Take your case side off and listen to where the whine is coming from. My guess is, either the PSU or the motherboard. That means the PSU is dying or is over-drawn....or the motherboard has an issue, such a a missing power connector, or a "singing" cap.

You said if you mute your speakers, you still hear the sound. I take it the sound is not coming from the speakers? In addition to Deacon's excellent advice, check your fans for any noise.

Going on the information given, I'd guess that either your PC or your sound system (if separate) is not properly grounded, and thus susceptible to electrical noise and interference.

In a case like that, though, I would expect a 60Hz hum (50Hz hum?) rather than a high-pitched whine like you describe, so I may be off target.

This could very well be an issue with the motherboard itself, since you have onboard audio. Or, it could be a problem with the speakers themselves. There is some sort of interference going on, as jwalk suggests, but we just have to figure out where it lies.

What speakers do you have? Sometimes capacitors or other components will fail on the x.1 systems (due to various cost-cutting measures of lack of proper cooling and ventilation of the units or just cheap components) causing this type of either hissing or squealing noise. Do you have a separate set you can connect to the computer to determine if the issue persists (i.e. if a second set doesn't make the noise, it's most likely the speakers themselves)?

Its the front port for my speakers is damaged, hence the whine. When i trying plugging it in at the rear port its fine.

I notice on the front between my usb port and the audio out port there is a crack so back to the shop it goes.
