    Weird copy/paste

First here is my pc setup with Win 7:
One Master HHD with 3 partitions:
    C-drive for OS only
    D-drive for installing software
    E-drive for everything else

I have copy/pasted, cut/pasted and use winrar to extract files before, so this is not something new to me.

The other day first I extracted a file to a folder from E drive to D-drive. I went to where I had extracted to and it did not show in the folder. I did a search and finally found the extraction in my user folder on C-drive. I then tried to copy/paste the file into the folder I wanted, then use "Extract Here". Now I am flustrated because the copy/paste went to my user folder and not where wanted.

After two days of fooling around with this, I still have not got the file where I want it.

Another similar thing that I have noticed is I have a folder on my desktop that I put short-cuts into so I dont have to go to ALL PROGRAMS all the time. Now when I look into that folder from the Desktop Toolbar, some short-cuts show and some don't. I have double checked and the files are there.

I am wondering if anyone else seen this and does anyone have a solution.
Thanks for any help on this.

I had not run a full virus scan or malware but have now and nothing showed up.

The only software I am running that someone did NOT have on the list of "Programs that run with Win 7" is PaintShop Pro 7.0 and I can not believe that would cause this. Besides it just started doing this a few days ago, before that I had never seen it before.

The install was clean on a brand new HHD.

The only major thing I can think is I ran Windows Update and installed the four Important updates.

Beats the heck out me. I know one thing it is a PAIN.

"EXTRACT HERE" - is that from a 3rd party extraction tool ? Maybe you need to tell it where to extract to.

My context menu says Extract All for Windows - and a number of other options from 3rd party apps.

I guess the "extract here" or "extract to" came from winrar. When right clicking a zip or rar file those are two of the options.

I know windows xp and vista had extract options; I have always used winrar and never tried the options that came with the OS.

After going back and reading some older posts, it seems this is not a new problem and probably is associtated with the verion of win 7 that I am using. Seens even the latest version are having this problem for some people. I sure hope it gets fixed before the final version is released.

    Thanks

What build are you using? I had strange copy/paste but in RC build. When I did copy and paste the file(picture) in a new folder the file did not show up until i did a refresh on that folder.
Everything is fine now with RTM.

I am not sure what the build is. I know it is Ultimate and one of the very early version (meaning OLD).

I will give the "refresh" command a try.

    Thanks

    Problem solved:

I restored images from acronis before I made the Windows Updates. I tested all the features copy/paste, cut/past/ move to and extractions. All of those worked perfectly as they should. Only thing I can conclude is that One or a combination of the 4 updates caused the problem.

    Thanks for all the help
