Windows Search box not running commands

    Hi,

I'm running Win 7 64 bit. I used to be able to run commands from the search box(start => search programs and files)

This doesn't work any more. Now if I put in cmd or regedit, and hit enter...nothing happens.

Any ideas how to fix this? Thanks.

Have you tried using the 'run' box?

Windows Search box not running commands

    Thanks for the help.

    Solved it via:

What happened to the Run command?

The run command wasn't on the start menu.

I thought your problem was the search box is why I posted the link.

The Run box I know very well.

Windows logo key + R or put it on the Start menu like you found out.

I also get the SEARCH NOT EXECUTING THE COMMAND but the RUN does work. I found many VIRUSES on the users PC they have the issue on, cleaned MANY of them but search still does not execute the command typed into the search line---i.e. CMD Regedit, etc.. Apparently a 'switch' was flipped to not allow the command to execute.

I notice some answers do not address the direct question of why the SEARCH does nor execute the command, Using the RUN does not answer the question.

So I too am still searching for a resolution.
