Windows 7 - Dell Touchpad - Synaptics Hi All,
I just installed Windows 7 Build 7600 and I am trying to get the touchpad scrolling to work on my Dell Inspiron 1420. I installed the synaptics drivers from their website (v10.1.8 x64) but when I go to mouse properties and click the synaptics tab it only allows me to configure the right and left click buttons. How can I configure the scrolling of my touchpad? I NEED it!
Also are there any iTunes guru's out there? I have my library all setup on my vista partition. Is there anyway I can get my library/playlists on the Windows 7 side...I don't want 2 copies of my music, I want it to all link to the files on the vista partition but I have a feeling I will have trouble either getting the playlists in or trying to gain access to those files on that partition....
thanks for all your help! | My System Specs |

We could tell you more if you filled in your system specs in the lower left corner of your post, but Im assuming you dont have this tab. Im running a dell as well but IM using an older driver that was installed by win 7, and it works
In terms of Itunes I also dual boot and keep the music files on one partition (win 7) but as long as you point itunes to where they are stored, it should be a problem. the problem comes when you want to sync the updates (adds/deletes) on both partitions.

Windows 7 - 64 bit or 32-bit?
When you say you downloaded the Synaptice drivers from their website do you mean the Synaptics website od Dell's?
Did Dell not have a Vista driver that would work? | My System Specs | | OS XP Pro & Vista Home Premium (x86); Windows Ultimate 7600 x64 Retail |

Ken, see I don't have all those tabs, only the 'device settings' tab shows up in regards to synaptics
I got my iTunes set-up, thanks!
& I'm running Windows 7 x64. I can't use the Dell drivers, they say there not compatible, that is why I tried generic synaptics and like I said, just one tab shows and only lets me configure left & right click.... any help? | My System Specs

Mine is 32 bit and I assume its from dell see the pic. If dells drivers give you grief try installing the vista 64 (if they have it) in compat mode

Well I helped a fellow poster out with this: Unless Dell decides to OFFICIALY support 64 bit on the A860 you will have to try alternatives. Dell likes to re-use things/designs/spec between models to save costs. I would try this one first (reported to work on Latitude D830) Drivers and Downloads I have not tried it yet on a Latitude I will be upgrading. I strongly suggest you do an image backup or at least a restore point before the install.

He reported back that it worked just fine.... if you have a Dell it might be worth a shot. | My System Specs | | OS XP Pro & Vista Home Premium (x86); Windows Ultimate 7600 x64 Retail |

If you don't have those tabs, then it means you haven't installed the Synaptics driver yet, or it hasn't been installed yet. Best option is to get some sort of x64 drivers (Vista, maybe) from the manufacturer website. Are you sure it was installed when you ran the installer? If you're able to unzip or extract the file, you can manually update the driver for the touchpad in Device Manager; I think I installed it this way on my laptop, and it loaded the software on its own. | My System Specs

I know the workaround via creating a toolbar but I just want to have it appear like the rest of my docked apps....
also with iTunes I just took over access of the music folder on vista and then copied over the itunes playlist file and successfully got my playlists back. Now if I sync my iPod to Windows 7 will it think it is a whole new library and re-write everything or will it just think its the same as always and only add new songs that weren't on it before? | My System Specs | | Windows 7 - Dell Touchpad - Synaptics problems?
