Losing control of cursor on laptop

When trying to work on laptop by cursor goes off in different directions and the page moves to the top and bottom at times which does not allow me to click on what I'm trying todo on the screen. Dell laptop - Vista.

My guess would be, as it was for me on my Samsung RV511...that the touch pad is in direct relation to the hand (thumb) position when typing. There should be an fn key short cut to temporarily turn off touch pad. On mine it the fn key + touch pad symbol on the top row of keys. This allows me to type effortlessly with out my cursor going bonkers.

Best is to use a little $10 mouse and deactivate the touchpad which is a pain anyhow.
