Running cmd as admin crashes Explorer ntdll.dll error

I'm tweaking my new PC and I need to run cmd as admin for certain purposes. However, when I try to run it as admin (by right-clicking a desktop link and choosing "Run as admin"), it crashes Explorer.exe and no prompt appears.

Here is the Event Viewer entry:
    explorer.exe
    6.1.7601.17567
    4d672ee4
    ntdll.dll
    6.1.7601.17725
    4ec4aa8e
    c0000005
    000000000004e4b4
    a24
    01cce34796dcee8f
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe
    C:\Windows\SYSTEM32\ntdll.dll
    255f9932-4f42-11e1-a124-50e549d2ec0f
This happens even after a clean boot.

As a matter of fact, Explorer.exe crashes VERY often and I can't pinpoint exactly why. (Happens while just viewing files and whatnot.) But it always mentions ntdll.dll.

How are you tweaking your system??Are you using 3rd party themes and such.Usually incompatible themes and their underlying files causes explorer.exe to crash.Try to remove the theme and then check if explorer is crashing.
You can run sfc /scannow in cmd as admnistrator to restore default windows file. Here is an excellent link with the same problem as yours Windows 7 explorer.exe keeps crashing - ntdll.dll fault - Microsoft Answers.

I'm changing miscellaneous system preferences, making cosmetic changes, turning off unwanted Windows features, etc. I'm not using a third-party theme.

I can't run cmd as admin. That's the reason I created this thread. Nevermind. I figured out a way to do this. Running scan now.

I'm digging through various threads now. I've enabled dmp files for explorer.exe, do you want me to share them when it happens again?

I suggest not to touch windows features especially microsoft ones. They are bound to create problems for you.Windows 7 doesn't need too much tweaking and it runs fine if you have decent system specs.

Yes do share them here in case more knowledgeable gurus visit this thread and look into it.

I believe I've solved it. I downloaded ShellExView and disabled the Spybot Search & Destroy context menu. My original problem has stopped, and so far Explorer hasn't crashed. Anyone else with Spybot who is having this problem might give that a try.

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions.

You are correct azhe. I had the problem , almost every time I right clicked on a file name in Windows Explorer and it crashed.

About a month back I came across ShellExView , like yourself, and experimented disabling some of the context menu settings for certain non-Microsoft programs. The Spybot context menu option was the culprit so now permanently removed this option from my context menu.

Not one crash since. Just tested enabling it and immediately Windows Explorer crashed when I used the right click option, so this definitely is the problem.
