    Need printer help

I need help getting my Dell Photo AIO printer 926 to work w/ W7. I only plan on using it for a couple months until I get a new printer (once W7 comes out that I know should work hassle free), but i DO need it now because school is starting and I don't want to have to convert all documents to word 2003 and then email them to my old computer...

All the drivers are installed, and it IS running in vista compatability mode. It just WONT print. When I try printing I usually don't get any errors. In word I do get an error though which says that the printer is not set up correctly. If I try to do a test page it just says cannot print. Windows 7 does not say anything is wrong.

Now I normally try printing from random websites, heres what happens. The first time that I send a document to print from a website it flashes in the document queue for about a second and then disappears. Afterwords if I try to send a document it won't even appear in the queue. From MS word I cannot even send the document... it won't work.

Now i DID get it to work once but that was after I had installed like 3 copies of the driver and the same printer was registered multiple times... I just couldn't have that. Oh and for some reason it had stopped the print spooler so I couldn't print anyways. So I went to removed all the drivers (and I think I removed all the copies, not sure how to really check...) and reinstalled the printer. Now the printer isn't working even though W7 says it's ok...

    Any ideas?

EDIT: oh, and any non-computer related functions work such as copying, whereas stuff like scanning/printing will not. So I figure it's something with the drivers =(

EDIT 2: working now... I reinstalled about another 3-4 times with different install settings each time, and I changed the service pack that it was in compatibility mode for; not sure which worked but atleast it's working now.

This happened before though before it turned off the print spooler, so I will mark as solved for now but It may break again. I'll update this again with info soon.

"All the drivers are installed, and it IS running in vista compatability mode."
Are you using the XP drivers?
Most Vista drivers will work in W7, Vista drivers and software available for you printer at: Drivers & Downloads=
Both 32 bit and 64 bit versions available, so choose the correct drivers for your system. The Vista printer software may also be required.

    Hi,

I've looked around a bit and from what I read it's not going to work.

What you can do, if you have Win7 RTM ultimate installed, is to use XP mode.

then you install the printer under the virtual xp and set it so Win7 can control it through the bridge between it and the virtual xp machine.

I'm not going into details about the xp mode.

There is plenty of info on this forum on the subject of visualization and xp mode.

    good luck.

I just spent 3 hours at a noobies house getting the MFC Lexmark printer working.
    1. Make sure every program that demands it work like DEMOS - removal is necessary. (FASTER cause you never know which one thinks it is the master.)
    2. Make sure you have all the required MS updates.
    3. Check with the manufacture and get the Vista Drivers.
    4. At least check an see what they say about what OS's it will work with.
Lexmark MFC manufacture clearly states. NONE OF THE EARLIER DRIVERS WILL WORK WITH WINDOWS VISTA.
