If my computer crashes, will my reminders be lost?

I have a multitude of reminders, both personal and business saved in Outlook. If my computer would crash, would I lose all of these reminders? If so, is there a way to preserve them for eternity?

Well, a normal ol crash probably not. But of course something really bad could happen at any time. You could lose your entire HD instantly turning the computer on one day.

If you don't want to lose anything or possibly everything, you absolutely need to make sure that your computer is completely backed up to an external hard drive or something.

You can do whole machine backups or you can just export all your outlook settings and emails from outlook itself to an external drive every day, week or month. But doing it just ONCE will put you in a far better position than not having done it at all

A crash is unlikely to destroy data unless your very unlucky.
Remember that back up tools were invented for just the scenario you worry about, so if you loose anything you just put it back from your DVD or USB drive, probably just as well not to put it on the same drive.

You should find Macrium reflect an invaluable asset, update your back up regularly.

Oops sorry fseal, I was just a few seconds behind you.

Backing up reminders

Thanks for your replies. I know just enough about computers to make me dangerous. I have looked in Outlook and don't see a Back-up option. Do I just slide the icon over to a flash drive? Don't intend to sound stupid, but then I guess I am!!

Just a sec...

Actually... outlook makes this somewhat difficult by itself. Was going to suggest Archiving but that can have unintended ramifications and I'd have to spend more time figuring out how to use it to backup and not affect your current mailbox contents.

There is a tool here from microsoft which is probably the best way to go...

Cyclic had a good suggestion for a whole machine backup that's worth looking into as well
