Is there a way to add it without 3th party installation?
You've followed the instructions in this tutorial and it's NOT working?
What happens? Where is the failure?
I think it's something related to the Registry.
Maybe because when you drag a file to Word pinned icon it does "pin to" and not "open with"...
Do you manage in your computer to add app of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) to SendTo?
Maybe this will explain the tutorial better:Just substitute the Word.exe file for Excel.exeUse the right-click send-to menu:
1) Open the path to your Office install (i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14)
2) Right click Excel.exe and choose "Create Shortcut".
3) Move the shortcut to %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo (rename the shortcut if desired)
4) When you want a document to open in a new instance, right-click the file, send-to your Excel shortcut.
5) Enjoy bacon.
No regedit, gives option to open in last window, don't have to use file/open.

Beware though, this post explores how Microsoft office apps can be placed in Send To even though their not allowed: http://Add Microsoft Office Applications to Send To Folder | answers.microsoft.com For whatever reason MS stopped allowing it starting with win7.
