Great! Just Remember to schedule the checkdisk utility with the repair switch "chkdsk /r" typed in at the command prompt to run on the next startup. That will insure the resizing seen there has maintained it's integrity. | My System Specs |

In the amount of time this thread took I could have installed Windows 7 30 times and also created and extended about a thousand partitions. Sometimes it's faster and easier to just start from scratch. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Home built OS Windows 7 Ult, Windows 8 Pro, CPU Q9650-4.275GHz, E8600 4.5GHz, E6750-3.8GHz Motherboard Evga 780i FTW Memory G.Skill PC2 9600 1200Mhz 5 5 5 15 2T Graphics Card GTX480 Sound Card Asus Xonar D2 Monitor(s) Displays HannsG Screen Resolution 1680X1050 Keyboard Logitech G15 Mouse Logitech G9 PSU ThermalTake Toughpower 1000Watt modular Case ThermalTake XaserV Cooling Xigmatek S1283 Hard Drives GSkill Phoenix Pro 120GB SSD Internet Speed T1 |

You got that right on the spot! SIW2
The help we can offer is simply part of a learning process for anyone new. Just because "we" can do something faster "we" don't go around critising someone simply because they don't have that amount of experience! They might just turn around and end up showing "us" something "we" DIDN'T know! | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-

It went something like that! I caught all three of those as well as some other oldies!
Otten here when planning a dual boot if the first is shrunk down I simply nuke the second primary and create the new larger one for a clean install there. But I've also spent a great of time working with multiboots on multiple drives especially with 7! For the next person they may only have one drive to work with along with the need to preserve the first changing the environment there.
THe circumstances for each individual user will always tend to vary with that simply being one example. Once you help someone become a better problem solver they can then turn around at some point later and actually discover something previous missed! "gee? how did he find that one when we didn't?" | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64, XP Mode, W8 RP VM, Linux Mint Debian 2nd OS HD- 7 Pro x64 second case CPU AMD Phenom II X4 975 Deneb 3.6ghz - 965 on new mini tower Motherboard Gigabyte GA-790XTA-UD4 Memory Kingston Hyper X DDR3 1600 1.5v 16gb - Mushkin on 2nd build Graphics Card MSI HD Radeon 5750 1gb - MSI HD Radeon 6450 on mini tower Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer - Realtek onooard 2nd case Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen - HP 20" widescreen mini towe Screen Resolution 1440x900 native - 1600x1024 on 7 Pro x64 build Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor - MS Comfort 3000 on second build Mouse MS Trackball Explorer - A4TECH dual scroll wheel trackball PSU Corsair 750TX - primary / Corsair CX600 - second Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible / NZXT Vulcan mini tower Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives Primary Ultimate x64 build-

This has no effect as to where the partition is physically on Disk0. That will not change.
Actually haven't tried this on Windows 7, but previous windows including Vista, Disk management will not 'extend' a partition to the left, only to the right. This is why X: won't go to the left. As far as I could tell, MS disk management is restricted due to anti-trust suits.
Try Partition Wizard Home Edition from this site: FREE Great Programs for Window 7
Works on 32 and 64 bit and Windows 7. I used it to move my OS partitions and it worked flawlessly.
Be sure to backup everything first. Acronis is the best, but several 'free' programs work very well, DiscWizard from Seagate (if you have a seagate HD and is a limited functionality version of Acronis), Macrium reflect, Paragon is said to be good also.
Download some of the help and how to info from the Partition Wizard home page. It will explain everything.
It's quite easy to run. You can select the moves you want to do, see what they will look like, then close all open programs except Partition Wizard, and then click "Apply" and it will shut down your OS and preform the changes and restart your OS, complete them and it's done.
Good luck,
Dave Very nice find, this one succeeded for me where others failed, thanks alot. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 64 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 Black Edition 940 Motherboard Gigabyte GA-MA790X-UD3P Memory 8 GB Graphics Card Nvidia 8800GTS Monitor(s) Displays Benq G2420HDBL Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Case Lian-Li Internet Speed 10/10 mb/s Extending my Windows 7 Partition problems?
