Automatic Zoom in Microsoft applications when lid closed

Currently running a standard Windows 7 based sony vaio laptop.

If I have a microsoft app running such as excel or IE that has a zoom slider in the bottom right when I close and reopen the laptop lid (I have the power options set to do nothing so there is no lock or hibenate occuring), then the zoom is changed. Usually in ie this is 85%.

Is there a way of disabling this annoying functionality rather than having to reset the zoom everytime I close and open the PC?

Had the same problem - nowhere on internet found the solution - so i'm posting the solution:

This problem is caused by the lid that somehow triggers the Zoom multitouch function on touchpad.
If you don't use it (i don't) - just simply go to:

Control Panel -> Mouse -> Multitouch Gestures (tab in mouse properties)
    and uncheck "Enable Pinch Zoom"

This is the easy and working fix.

the other solution is to install some driver (i don't know the details) from dell that disables touchpad when lid closed.

Posed there because google finds this page on the issue.
