    Programs shutting down overnight

I recently got a new work computer equipped with windows 7 home. It's a refurbished desktop so I wanted to give it a good test the first few weeks to ensure it is going to run properly.
The first night i opened up all my major programs that I use for work, Corel, Word, Adobe, Mail, etc and left them all open all night. When I returned the next morning my screen saver was up, and only my mail program was left running. I thought i must have shut them down out of habbit by mistake and did the same thing the next evening, only to come in today and the same thing had happened.
Why would all my running programs with the exception of live mail shut down on me overnight?!

I changed all my power settings to never shut off as well. Help?

    Mags :)

I'm leaving it on to test the computer. It's refurbished so i wanted to push it to the limit to make sure if it was going to act up it's within my shorter warranty time.

Leaving your computer with a couple programs idle overnight is not much of a test. You could use Prime 95 for a real test if you feel comfortable using it. Read the instruction/information before using Prime 95. If you decide to use Prime 95 make sure you monitor the temps. If not use your computer as you would at work and see if is capable of doing what you want it to do.
What are the specs of this refurbished computer? What are the specs of the computers you use at work. This will help us help you.

    Specs are

    HP Model: P7-1010
Processor AMD Athlon II X4 645 Processor 3.10 GHz
    6.00 GB Ram
    64 Bit
    Windows 7 Home

Brand new this week from futureshop.
I'm sure there are better ways to give it a test, i will look into your suggestions and thank you.

Still strange that all programs shut down except windows live mail though. What could be causing this?

Your specs are quite good for a office PC. Prime 95 and a program called FurMark are used to test hardware if one cares to. Of course monitoring the temps when using them. Normally not use on office computers but can be.
As for your problem with those programs shutting down, well I'm thinking on that.
Did you check your Taskbar to see it they still there? As far as I can find their is nothing in Screen Saver that will cause that.

I know the specs are great eh! I got a good deal on a super computer. I'm happy about that. I'll look into the programs you mentioned and i appreciate the info.

The programs are gone from the taskbar when i return. The only program left running and on the task bar is my mail program. Too weird!

At work would you normally leave your computer that way or would you shut it down over night? We might be trying to fix something that will not happen at work. I still would like to know why.

I would normally turn my computer off at night. The only reason i'm doing this is to give it a test as it's a refurbished computer. True it wouldn't normally be an issue but it's very strange none the less, and it's driving me nuts trying to figure out why it's happening!!
