SP1 is just a Service Pack, specifically the first (and currently only) one available for W7. These are merely a collection of security fixes and other OS patches that Microsoft have released since the original OS was made available. All current retail versions of W7 should already have this pre-integrated on the disk, so all you need to do is pop the disk in and install. If, by any chance, your disk doesn't already include SP1 (and I can't tell whether the Dixons one does or not), you can always download the appropriate standalone of SP1, burn it to a disk (or place on a USB stick) and then install it from that. If you have to go down that route, it is usually best to install the Service Pack immediately after installing W7, as that's the closest you can get to having it pre-integrated.

    Also what is SP1?
I don't want to sound rude, but that's something a person should know very well if they were shopping for a Windows 7 license. Service packs have been a part of Windows since...well since it was called Windows.

I don't really see the problem with buying a copy of Windows off eBay, as long as there is a photo of the box and it's still factory sealed.
Apparently you haven't read the articles about counterfeit boxes, and how easy it is to create them on your own. Just because the seller posts a picture of the box, doesn't mean it is legit. Not by any stretch.

It should clearly state so on the packaging and disk. And please steer clear of eBay and other similar auction sites when purchasing software. There is no telling as to what you are actually purchasing, and there is very little comeback if you are stung.

Yes, most you see will have SP 1, but it should be clearly stated on the packaging.

Your friend might have to spend the higher amount of money then. Is he able to buy it at 300, or is he just unwilling to pay 300?
