It is a good idea to space your programs and even Windows Updates installs out so that you can determine with certainty if one has affected performance. You can then roll back using the Restore Point set during installs/updates and give the program/updates greater scrutiny when installing or leave it out.

With Updates you can install from the suspect group singly to determine which is the problem then open an email Support case with MS.

Often times a new computer will have its performance throttled by all of the preinstalled crapware and useless utilties which have better versions built into Win7. It's also a good idea to Clean up factory bloatware

I took the computer back to the shop today and I have just been told the RAM was faulty. They said they fixed the problem and it is ready for pickup. I'll see what it is like when I bring it home.

There was definitely a recognisable difference in attitude from when I talked to them over the phone versus face-to-face.

This has definitely been an education and I thank you all for your input. It is greatly appreciated and I wish you all the best.
