Windows 7 64 bit won't shut down on new computer

I just received my brand new computer yesterday. It runs like a dream and I was loving it. There is one problem though, and I haven't ever seen this before, I am hoping maybe someone can shed some light on this.
When I hit shutdown, it will act like it is shutting down. But it seems to freeze on the Windows is shutting down screen, the little circle shown no more progress. I can hear my hard drive power down, and it shows no more activity, however the case stays on and the Shutting Down screen stays up. Any thoughts (this is my first 64 bit)?
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
    Gigabyte Z68 motherboard
    16 GB ram
    Nvidia GTX 560 2 GB
    Intel i7 3.4 GHz
When Win 7 came up I accepted the let Windows choose for me as I just wanted to get WoW downloading (it takes forever). Hope that helps. :)

    Hello trekgirl, welcome to Sevenforums!

Try this tutorial out: Repair Install (by Brink).

If you can, try updating through windows update.

I ran Windows Update last night, though I had not tried the repair.Thankfully I have the retail disc from my last computer as this one only came with a system image disk. I will give this a shot tonight and let you know how it went. Thanks for responding!

Respectfully, you can use the same retail CD on any computer you want, but you will need different product keys for different computers. However, OEM CDs are tied to the computer you first install to.

this is true but the OP stated she is going to try a disk from her old computer which I found in the windows 7 install or repair instructions that you must use the original disk that came with your computer so she will have to buy a new key for her old disk.

    This:
You can only do a repair install with the same edition Windows 7 installation disc for the same edition of Windows 7 that you have installed.
From the afore mentioned tutorial means that it requires the same edition of windows, ie if you have Windows Home, you will also need the home CD, but it could be any home CD. Good observation, jlhawn.

It is a retail disc same version, and I have the key on the box. At any rate, I ended up having to reinstall because the no shut down issue corrupted everything. Thankfully I still had my files backed up.
I did figure out the problem as I installed things one by one. It was surprising considering there was nothing in event viewer when I had the issue. My SteelSeries Shift keyboard was the culprit. As soon as drivers were installed for it, the system would no longer shut down. As soon as they were removed it was fine.
I appreciate the posts everybody, and I look forward to contributing in the future.

Interesting. Sadly, I should have known to take you through msconfig to test more of this, but I am a very forgetful person. I am very glad you got it working on your own, though! Good luck to you.
