    Acer laptop freezes/pauses frequently.

Hello, my friend's acer laptop has been freezing and or hanging a lot. For example, i might be clicking the start menu button and it'll freeze for 10 seconds; i open my computer, freezes again for another 10 seconds etc. Also, startup is slow. Like minutes slow.

I've tried running sfc /scannow but it keeps stopping at 57% with this message:

"windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation."

Scanned for malware/viruses and it found none.

I'm thinking this is a possible corrupt registry/system files problem.

    What do you think?

    * It would be good to have the System Specs.

    * These annoying " gliches" may be caused by an overloaded hard drive, overworked CPU, Malware, running 2 AV 's, unnecessary data, Browser addons or there may be unnecessary programs running in the background etc....

    * Did the computer come preloaded with Anti Virus Software?
If so what was it & how was it removed?

    * Please list ALL the Current Security software being used.

    * Has a Registry Cleaner/optimizer been used?

Try running SFC -SCANNOW Command again. If it stalls again consider a Repair Install.

Test your RAM and HD, cull the logs for repeat errors, achieve a clean boot following these troubleshooting steps.

    System specs are :

    Os 7
    intel i3
    intel hd graphics
    4gb dd3 memory
    320gb hd
    acer nplify wifi card.

Not sure how this is going to help though.

I've also gone through the usual checklist: virus/malware scan, unchecked everything in msconfig and did a cclean. But the lappy still runs at a snails pace, taking minutes to open things like my computer and the control panel.

Is there a particular question you have about the steps I gave you?

If you're not interested in doing the work then take it to a shop. There is no shortcut, only thoroughness.
