Greetings all!

Hey there! I'm Adad64 (pronounced add-add and not a-dad btw. I am not a dad, just a programmer cursed with a crappy username but locked in by habit and years of using it.) I'm not a huge fan of Windows, but I use it when I must and have gained a bit of experience. Hopefully I can help some of the noobs and get helped by some of the 1337 in my stay here

Welcome adad64 Seven Forums has a huge tutorial section to further ones experience of using Windows 7 and can also be used to help others. As for your username I consider it to be an homage to the inventor of the abacus which is the very early foundation of digits used by computer.

Win7 Pro 32bit; Zorin OS 9 Core (in VM)

Greetings, all. My name's Tom, and as I sit here, my copy of Win7 Pro 32bit is waiting at the post office for me to pick it up. I ran Win95c from 2001 to 2004, then XP Home since 2004, and I'll be installing Win7 in a dual boot config the week of May 13. I tried the Win8 Consumer Preview and simply hated it, and figured I'd better buy a copy of Win7 before the demand and prices start going up. Better late to the party than never.

My primary goal is to tweak and bend and do whatever it takes to get Win7 working the way I need and want... in other words, as much like XP as possible! I've already downloaded stuff like Classic Shell, ShellFolderFix, finding ways to add Quick Launch and the flashing Network indicator going, and get my unsigned drivers working on my soundcard, and will be keeping XP for a while... I have software that won't work with Vista, never mind 7 or 8.

Too long for an intro, so I'll just shut up now and start digging for info. Thanks for having me.

Welcome to SevenForums Tom,

Windows 7 is an excellent choice. You will find it requires far less tweaking than XP : in fact, the best advice I can give you is not to treat Windows 7 like XP. 7 is just so much better at everything.

Check out our extensive range of tutorials (linked at the bottom of my signature) and if you need more help just post away : we have a significant amount of very experienced members that will be able to help.

Enjoy your stay at SevenForums.

Regards,
Golden
