    Update to RTM without stupid Windows.Old?

    Hey everyone, how is your evening?

    I just have a quick question. I just installed the RC and got everything where I wanted it, but now I am in the midle of DLing the RTM, I read about the hack that allows you to do an upgrade instead of a clean install, but will that give me the Windows.Old file?

    Also, how do I find out if the RTM is legit? Something about Hashbrowns? (I'm so witty!). Isn't there some kind of number that is supposed to match up? if so where could I find this number?

    Thanks in advance!

    you'd get Windows.old folder if you install to a partition where Windows already lives. It would not be the case if you format the drive before you install the RTM version.

    It doesn't sound like you are downloading the RTM legally. Otherwise the software would be verified automatically by Microsoft's download manager tool.

    erm...by activating it with a purchased product key

    I think it would give you the Windows.old folder as sup3rsprt has already said. Also, read here to get rid of the Windows.old folder after installing your (ahem) legit copy of W7 via. upgrade;

    Windows.old Folder - Delete

    Actually, a hacked version or something that had nasties planted in it could still activate just fine with a legitimate key. Activation doesn't mean much other than that the key itself is legitimate.

    You know the software is "legit" when you download from MS directly or you buy it off the shelf from a reputable store.

    I thought a clean install would give you that file not an upgrade as you system would be the same as before u did the upgrade.
