Stuck at bootscreen after resetting BIOS

Hello fellow geeks,

Ive have come across a very peculiar dilemma. One day after a system update, all my USB input devices stopped working leaving me stuck at the Win 7 login screen. After some basic troubleshooting I decided to reset BIOS with system defaults. No help there. So instead i decided to do a hardware reset of the bios by flipping the switch/jumper on the motherboard. Still none of the USB ports are working. When I boot the computer it is doing an initial RAM check saying that the configuration has changed and politely asks me to press F1 to save settings or press F10 to setup BIOS. BUT, since my keyboard is not working I cannot proceed.

Bought a USB --> PS/2 converter to see if my keyboard would respond on that port... the answer is noooo.

So, would be ever grateful if someone has got a solution for this. Or at least someone can point me in the right direction. Otherwise I might just throw it all out the window. Pretty fed up with this atm.

Thanks in advance!

//Calle

It may seem silly, but it worked for me once. Did you tried to remove all the electric plugs, remove the usb plugs, wait for 15 seconds and then insert them again, first electric plugs, after that usb s. My all usb ports weren't working and that solved my problem.

Not silly at all my friend. I gladly welcome every response. Unfortunately I have already tried this without success. Thanks anyway!

Maybe a pure PS/2 keyboard would work??

What do you guys think?

A PS/2 Kybrd and mouse might enable you to get to BIOS and sniff around a bit.
If you left the CMOS battery in while resetting the board, it may not have completely reset. Remove it and the power cable and try that again.

Will go on ancient keyboard hunt then i guess. Have already tried the CMOS battery removal as well. Thanks.

Should add that I don't mind reformatting the whole thing if there is a way to circumvent the BIOS boot screen...
Are there any other low level resets that you can perform except CMOS and BIOS?

something I've got to wprk at times is to press the Pause/Break key when the very first POST info show on the screen. IT allowed the system to pause and my USB drivers loaded.

Have you tried booting from the Windows DVD to try a repair?

Well, cant really pull of the Pause/Break since the keyboard is not working. The Win 7 install DVD is constantly in the drive but it won't look for startup devices until after BIOS screen (i think) so it is sort of a catch 22 that i am in.

Is it possible to flash bios on startup before BIOS is initialized???

You're going to need a PS/2 keyboard to fix this, unfortunately. By resetting the BIOS the way you did, you've probably disabled USB at BIOS startup so you're not going to have any luck with a USB keyboard connected. Find a PS/2 keyboard and enable the appropriate settings back. Lesson learned that resetting the BIOS like that is not the way to fix a USB problem or most other problems unless something really has gone completely haywire in the BIOS.

My BIOS keep resetting after I shut down and plug out. I am suspecting CMOS battery drained out but this PC is only 3 years+. Moreover, my time and date DID NOT RESET back to the default, it still remain as usual. Any idea on this? I'm using GIGABYTE GA-Z77P-D3. Thanks in advance guru! :)

stuck on bios
Unlike every other post I've seen on here where people are stuck on bios, I have not changed/added/removed any part of my computer. My only thought is that 3 days before I had plugged in my external hard drive and I think at night my computer must have been updating itself and tried to restart. ...

Stuck on BIOS
Okay, so I got a new HDD recently (if this could be of relevance). Anyways, everything was working fine, I had just finished installing everything 2 days ago. Today, my computer freezes.
