    Changing system drive


    How do I make my new SSD my system drive without having to reinstall the OS on it?
    This might help:


    I've tried unplugging the current system drive (:/C), but it just says "Ntldr missing"...

    Unfortunately you've incorrectly installed Win7 to the SSD from C instead of correctly booting the installer so that Win7 could show as C when booted. This also assured the System boot files would remain on C.

    If you don't mind the SSD Win7 being E drive when booted, then you can follow these steps to recover the System boot files into it:

    Mark E Active in Disk Mgmt or using the Win7 DVD Repair console Command Line: Partition - Mark as Active. I would also mark F Partition - Mark as Inactive as only OS partitions should be marked Active.

    Power down to unplug all other HD's, reboot into BIOS setup to make sure SSD is set first HD to boot, after DVD drive.

    Now boot the Win7 DVD Repair console to run Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts on its own and E holds the System flag.

    You can now plug back in the other HD's. If you need to boot C select it's HD to boot using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first boot screen.
