Multiple Small Problems - Need help

All of a sudden, I am experiencing numerous small problems with my Windows 7 installation. These include:
    General
    1. Screen Saver doesn't activate
    2. Audio output remains at zero, if I change the level setting it drops to zero again

    Specific Applications:
    1. Outlook, right click context menu for attachments doesn't appear
    2. Photomatix Pro: Pushbuttons show depressed when activated with mouse, but nothing happens.
    3. Fidelity ATP: Trade screen doesn't work with mouse and locks up program
    4. Lightroom: can't move settings with mouse on pointers

I have tried various approaches including scf /scannow, which returned no problems.
I have tried a "repair" installation as shown on this site and been told, I can't upgrade Win 7 Professional to Win 7 Professional.
I am about to do a new installation of Win 7, but of course I have a lot of applications that would have to be installed if I do that. Do you have any other suggestions. Some of these I can work around, others I can't. I know of no system change that I made that would cause this.
    Thanks for any help.

    Dear straehle,
Welcome to the forums! What security software have you installed? I mean Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware and Anti-spyware,etc. If you have ,then update them and run scans.

I have McAfee Total Protection, which updates itself and has been installed all along. I have just updated and am running a scan. Thank you for your response.

Kindly download MBAM from :Malwarebytes : Malwarebytes Anti-Malware PRO removes malware including viruses, spyware, worms and trojans, plus it protects your computer
    Update and run scan.

Download SAS Portable scanner from : SUPERAntiSpyware.com - SUPERAntiSpyware Portable Scanner
    Just run it.

Download the free ESET Online Virus Scanner from here and run it : ESET :: Get a FREE Online Virus Scan
This is because running McAfee is not enough.
    regards and best wishes,

Why three? Do I need to have all three running all the time. It seems that that would slow the computer down to a crawl. What is one Av, etc. program to use?

    Dear straehle,
They are to be run one after the other, to rule out malware of many a hue! Since you are planning to reinstall Win.7, but worried about losing the registration data and serial numbers and keys, the best thing is to download Belarc Advisor!

Belarc Advisor" builds a detailed profile of your installed software and hardware, network inventory, missing Microsoft hotfixes, anti-virus status, security benchmarks, and displays the results in your Web browser. All of your PC profile information is kept private on your PC and is not sent to any web server."

This should help you! Download site: Belarc Advisor - Free Personal PC Audit
